The Smart board The Smart board is a very interactive piece of technology that has taken the place of the classic chalkboard or white board. It has done a great job getting students involved with lessons through the interactive side of the Smart board. Students are surrounded by technology all day long and want to see that it's being utilized in the classroom to keep their attention. They may not go into class with that exact attitude but they do become much more involved with a lesson when the use of technology is presented to them. This is a student body that is engrossed in technology all day long and some need it to even pay attention to certain lessons. This is a great technology that has really brought the 21st classroom to life over the last few years in much of the country. In my computer lab each student has there own assigned computer. I also have four iPads for my students to use in competition for salesmanship, they use them for making videos, and they are beginning to explore other ways to utilize these units for business use. I use my iPad for everything and I am hoping that by modeling this each day, my students will follow suit. Fred 05/13/12
McLuhan’s Tetrad
McLuhen’s Tetrad for high school business class using www.SpiderScribe.net technology.
This emerging technology “enhances” by providing a free online mind-mapping tool that is easy to use, providing a digital back-up for documents and pictures, and by providing an online collaborative environment suitable for schools.
This emerging technology “reverses” by being replaced by newer and/or easier to use technology, by being replaced unlimited free resources such as Google Docs, and by being replaced by Social Networking programs being developed.
This emerging technology “retrieves” by rekindling the use of mind-mapping strategies as a learning tool, rekindling collaborative learning as an educational strategy, and by rekindling the importance of shared ideas.
This emerging technology “obsolesces” by replacing mind-mapping hard-copy documents, by replacing the need for flash drives, and by replacing the need for other graphic organizers.

Fred, I have used Spider Scribe in other classes and it's a great technology and great resource to get students to do things like flowcharting. I have used it for a digital electronics class where programming requires you to be able to flow chart. If you can't flow chart in programming you will struggle. The best activity I do is the making of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. You would be amazed how many students don't complete the task the first time. This is a great piece of software and has a great deal of relevance to this assignment. Posted by Dave Pavlick 5/13/12
